Oil is up and futures are slightly lower. Fridays are usually bullish for oil but we are in strange times so we will just have to see how it plays today. Looking at a potential DUG long and an XOM short soon. I mentioned a few posts ago that I was getting ready for a short of retail.I am now short RTH(retail holders) around $96. I will stay short for a while on this one. I still believe the consumer is fried.
The solars were toast yesterday and STP couldn't run on a good number. SOLF down $5 on a Goldman downgrade. They probably need to back and fill, but if oil rolls over they do have huge room on the downside.

Sooooooooooo On Fire!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love trading when it works like this. I was lucky enough to have very good positions, literally near the lows of the day in SOLF and QCOM. The volume was sick, just absolutely sick on both. I held them all day and kicked them both at the close. I was very tempted to take them home but didn't want the risk. I may regret it based on the action. USO is giving be fits and my stop is $104. My buddy Johnson had a big winner in MBT today. I caught his call on Twitter and caught it for a a half.

Great Day at Headquarters and RCH
That beautiful chart on the left is part of the reason. I had it on the blog this morning as one to watch. No. I didn't buy it yesterday but caught it with some size a little before 10am. I have had success lately trading names that had a monumental volume explosion "the day prior". I did it with SOLF yesterday after it broke out and traded 9 million shares the day before. USO had me all jiggy until it started to rally. Hate that stock, but I'm still short. Tomorrow it will probably be strong as paranoia about geopolitical events over the weekend always plays a part. Recent names mentioned in the morning posts this week rocked-LEAP,ADBE,ADSK,SY, SOLF,RIG all acted well or exploded. Hope consumer sentiment doesn't pee in the pool tomorrow. Later!!!!!! Anyone but me want to eat 40 vicodin when you hear the N.Y. Times commercial on CNBC?

Futures Slightly Higher
The solars look higher in pre market. RIG should be watched as Petrobras just signed up about 70% of the worlds deep water drillers.

Late Fade
So I acquiesced and bought a solar, actually two, SOLF and SPWR.I did great on both as I caught them early. What a group when their giddy up wants to go. What a give back though, especially FSLR which gave back about 10 points off the high. I hear a broker came out negative around 2pm. I thought the financials would try to rally but it ended up to be pretty lame. The DOW gave back about a 100 points off the high and some of the tech stocks were racing to close near their lows of the day. Not a healthy sign. The SPX is near a triple top around 1420-22. The NDX gave up all its gain and more, and broke its initial support. I am back in a little USO short, I was always told to trust my gut and I went against that yesterday. I'd rather be wrong than a wuss by not having exposure. I still like SOLF but it may need a rest.If oil does correct I wonder how the solars will react, really not a major correlation in the past. DRYS over a $100 again-wow.
I never owned an auto an airline or a retailer, but if the latter rallies further I will short the bejeezus out of the group. If this is just a rally in a bear market I will print money on the way down. I do think the consumer is in the crapper- and it will get much worse.
LEAP,SY,ADBE all acted fairly well today. Be careful, a hard rain might be coming.
